Work has been looked at from two points of view the economic and personal fulfillment. It has done both for me. It has provided me the means of livelihood and reason to understand life. The basis of my reaching a state of near-complete life satisfaction has been enhanced by my work experiences. Here I would talk about the little guidance early in life that has carried me through. I have worked in industries for which I was not initially educated.

Learning has been an ongoing process. The title summarizes the first lesson I got from my father very early in my career. They are simple words yet have carried me through my life and provided meaning to them.

Before that, I will say a little about myself to understand what I say a little better.

I had started working in a different industry from my education due to economic needs. The process has made me change as circumstances have changed.

I had graduated in tourism but was unable to find work for few months. There was no discrimination. I understand now. Only a preference for a better employee and few opportunities being available. I was disabled due to a stroke early in life. Paralyzing the limbs on the left side. I had recovered mainly with my family’s consistent effort. I could walk, run normally. Only my forearm and hand remained affected, and visibly so. I got a job with a readymade garment export house. The sector was doing well in India at that time.

I have worked in India at various levels. Working in the garment/textile industry, has worked in Jamaica, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Sri Lanka. Worked as an accountant in the transport, and construction businesses in the British Virgin Islands, finally in Canada as a job developer in a remote role. The factors changing the course of my work were two significant accidents and a stroke. After which, I had to adjust. Before I went to Sri Lanka to set up a sourcing agency office, I did it successfully. This was while recovering from
